How is Hollie Doing?
People have lovingly asked me, “How is Hollie doing?”
I don’t know how to answer without delivering an entire essay, or delivering news that’s not rolling with positivity. However, it means the world to me when I’m asked. So I can say:
Hollie is diligent – doing her best to keep taking the pills and meds, even though they make her choke.
Hollie is persevering – no part of this is easy for her. No part of her feels good or right. She is not able to tell if she is feeling any better. But she keeps at it. 💪🏻
Hollie is keeping busy – the dehydrator is getting a workout! She has been dehydrating anything and everything, including beef jerky! She is trying new things and has been enjoying the distraction.
We are watching the Spider Man series with her as a family and just finished Pirates of the Caribbean. We’re taking votes on the next series.
Hollie is preparing – Another infection needs attention in the gut. A lot of preparation goes with that, cutting out foods and spices. More meds come this week, yay.
Hollie is reflecting – Sometimes on our walks at night she will feel like talking, and will share things she’s noticing in how far she has come. For example, yesterday we walked and she was reminded of a day where I made her walk only to the mailbox and back, for even that was a huge undertaking. In her words she said, “I just wasn’t there. At all.”
She has come so far in so many ways, and yet still has so far to go. Reflecting does a lot to encourage.
Hollie is choosing positivity – every week she puts new quotes on her white board to encourage herself. She doesn’t give up on prayer, or the goodness of God. She firmly knows he has a good plan for her life. She’s amazing and encourages me.
She still has her very low moments, who wouldn’t? Humans have limits, and many times she has been there, where she just doesn’t know how to hang in there anymore. She desperately wants this time of sickness to be over, to live a normal life. She’s shared with me that in those dark times she prays, and even though she may not feel him there, she knows God loves her and is with her.
She makes the very hard choice to look at her life and still be thankful. May God continue to bless her and those her life touches. The quotes I share here are from her whiteboard and we hope they bring encouragement.
Keep her in your prayers, the long road is so weary.
How may we pray for you? Please send us a message. No matter the circumstance, God is always good, and he does have a plan. 💪🏻💗🙏💚
